Memory, place and the search for an inclusive territory in the autobiographical documentary of a Brazilian disabled person and audiovisual artist

In this article is an experience report on the research and work carried out by the Brazilian video maker Cíntia Soares for the constitution of her documentary Elos: translating the untranslatable (2022). In the (auto)biographical work, she promotes intersections between her subjective experience as a person with a disability (PCD) and broader social and historical contexts, directly linked to a past of prejudice and silencing. In this sense, the young Latin American filmmaker seeks to explore a different territory through filmmaking and the sensitive possibility of expression allowed by this language. From this singular perspective and from the constructed filmic poetics itself, this protagonist reflects on concepts such as memory and place, allowing herself to break boundaries and promote crossings in search of desired new territories and differentiated artistic and expressive possibilities linked to affection and inclusion.
