Abstract

This text pays tribute to the filmmaker, lecturer and historian Silvio Tendler, who passed away in 2025 and left behind a career marked by a commitment to Brazil’s memory and history. By linking cinema, memory and history as a critical project to reconstruct Brazil’s past, the text presents excerpts from a workshop led by the director, highlighting his understanding of the archive as a field of contested meanings. It thus highlights his pedagogy of the archive as a political-aesthetic practice geared towards historical rewriting and critical intervention in the present.
